How Will Texas GOP Legislative Priorities Fare in the 89th Texas Legislature?
Coming off historic Republican wins in the November 2024 election, the 89th Texas Legislature had the potential to be the strongest session in years with a total of 20 Republican State Senators and 88 Republican State Representatives.
Unfortunately, the Republican caucus nominee did not win the Speaker race. Instead, 36 Republicans joined 49 Democrats to elect Dustin Burrows as Texas House Speaker.
With a Speaker beholden to the Democrats who helped get him elected, Texas GOP Legislative Priorities are now on the line. What can we expect in the 89th Texas Legislature and what can we do to help get conservative priorities passed?
