Happy Birthday, USA! On this Independence Day, we want to thank you for your dedication to the United States of America, the Declaration of Independence, and our Constitution. Last year, we declared July “Patriot Month” and encouraged all Americans to unite in celebration of our founding principles and gratitude to live in the best nation on earth.
This year, we are pleased to endorse Representative Roger Williams’s (R-TX) resolution to designate the month of July as “American Patriotism Month.” In the resolution, Rep. Williams lists important historical events that highlight the fact that “patriotism has bonded citizens of the United States of America since the foundation of our country,” including:
The ultimate patriotic act that happened when 13 colonies declared independence from British rule on July 4, 1776.
Thousands of Americans rushed to enlist in the military after the Pearl Harbor attacks on December 7, 1941, and then again 60 years later after the September 11, 2001, attacks.
Over 73,000 Americans stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, to protect democracy around the world.
On January 20, 1961, President John F. Kennedy delivered the stirring line, “And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
On January 20, 1981, President Ronald Reagan in his inaugural address stated, ‘‘Above all, we must realize that no arsenal or no weapon in the arsenals of the world is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today’s world do not have. It is a weapon that we as Americans do have.’’
America triumphantly emerged as a beacon of hope during the Cold War against the Soviet Union.
The patriots fighting back against the airplane hijackers on September 11, 2001, who undoubtedly saved thousands more lives by their selfless act.
The resolution also implores educators to teach the younger generation that patriotism is “a selfless act of love for one’s country and fellow citizens” and America’s greatness is born of the actions of patriotic men, women, and children throughout its history.
In addition to recognizing the over 2 million men and women serving in the military, the resolution implores educators to teach the younger generation that patriotism is “a selfless act of love for one’s country and fellow citizens” and America’s greatness is born of the actions of patriotic men, women, and children throughout its history. Rep. Williams stated:
Throughout history, we have created holidays for many groups, but fail to adequately celebrate the patriots who made our freedoms possible. Any man or woman, regardless of their background, can be a patriot and American Patriotism Month is an opportunity to remind us of the values that make our nation great.
While this type of resolution may have seemed like common sense at one time, the Left, especially under the Biden administration, has painted a picture of the United States as a dysfunctional and weak country. Government officials have implemented policies that erase women, incentivize the breakdown of families, politicize the military, hand over our sovereignty to China, and weaponize our education systems by pushing Marxist ideology. A measure that advocates for the opposite of these evils shouldn’t be controversial!
When we consider the dangers being pushed by the radical progressives, we can easily get dispirited. However, Rep. Williams’s words are a reminder that hardship and struggle often produce acts of great courage. As Fred Rogers said, “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” During these scary times, it is our responsibility to be the ones who stand up for our constitutional freedoms and shine a light on those who are doing it well. If we want our country to continue to be the land of the free, we must be the brave.
We encourage you to celebrate our freedoms this July 4th! Make plans to join us in St. Louis on September 26-28th for Eagle Council 52 where you will be empowered to fight for God, Family, and Country. Click here to register!
