FDA Loses Its War on Ivermectin
March 21, 2024 | Galveston, TX
Dr. Mary Talley Bowden, along with two other physicians, filed a federal lawsuit in June 2022 against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for interfering with their medical practices and spreading false information about ivermectin as a treatment for COVID. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. Southern District of Texas in Galveston.
Houston Methodist suspended Dr. Bowden in 2021 for using free speech to defend ivermectin.
On March 21, the FDA reportedly agreed as part of the lawsuit to remove all its previous social media posts and consumer advisories that specifically addressed the use of ivermectin for the treatment or prevention of COVID.
Dr. Bowden shared on X (Twitter), “FDA loses its war on ivermectin and agrees to remove all social media posts and consumer directives regarding ivermectin and COVID, including its most popular tweet in FDA history. This landmark case sets an important precedent in limiting FDA overreach into the doctor-patient relationship.”
