Stop Double Taxation! Fix Texas FREEways Without New Toll Taxes
Rachel Hale of Texans Uniting for Reform and Freedom (TURF) will share threats to our freedom to travel, provide a state and federal legislative update, and discuss efforts to keep Texans free from:
➡️ New tolls on existing freeways, forcing drivers to pay a toll tax on roads they have already funded.
➡️ Mandated remote kill switches required in all new passenger vehicles starting in 2026 (more info from Texas GOP). Rachel and TURF are heading to D.C. to fight the kill switch.
➡️ Mileage tax, ESG threats, digital IDs, and eminent domain abuse.
Rachel currently serves as Rusk Republican Party County Chair, Representative for TURF, board member and parent advocate Texas Education 9-1-1, and SD 1 Coordinator for Grassroots America - We the People.
More About Toll Taxes
In recent years, there has been a state and federal push for tolls on existing freeways. These tolls:
Produce a second, inefficient, unaccountable tax on top of the gas tax with no protection from further raiding of gas taxes or toll revenues to fund things other than transportation.
Create more congestion on frontage roads.
Allow non-elected people to set the tax rate (toll tax) for our public highways without limits.
Give road project location decisions to the private sector to be based on profitability rather than need and environmental considerations, often failing to provide important viability studies.
Will never be removed, as the sloppy revenue slush fund gets spent on other political pet projects (not good government).
Rachel will explain how the grassroots can help return responsibility for road construction and maintenance to the appropriate jurisdiction under the supervision of elected representatives instead of private corporations.
